Hood Dreams

Image
Sports no matter what part of the world you are located has always had an impact on its fans mind, body, or soul. The athletes of each respective sport have a voice that has millions clinging to their every word; athletes such as LeBron James, Patrick Mahomes, Killian Mmappe, and Mookie Betts to name a few. Due to these figures in sports and their stories of coming up in life we see a “way out.” Young people of the world, people of color especially, gravitate to having dreams of being an athlete because it provides the money and power to help their family and loved ones. If those dreams of being on the big stage aren’t achieved all is not lost. Just being in an organized sport growing up still teaches you things even if it is not on the highest level.       Sports as we all know isn’t always about the best player or the superstar player, it’s about a collection of parts with those type of players. We see this especially in the world of basketball and football that one person with

Western Conference Finals

Image
Well, once again the Western Conference proves its superiority in the NBA with the upsets of all upsets. A mixture of unprecedented performances and possibly the biggest choke job we’ve seen in the playoffs. Truly a conference of depth and elite talent. The Los Angeles Clippers were constructed to contend with their roommate in Staples Canter the Los Angeles Lakers for the NBA Championship. For them to lose the way that they did adds fuel to the fire when talking about forwards Kawhi Leonard and Paul George as top tier superstars in this league. Enough about the losers and let’s talk about the winners.  The unpredictable Denver Nuggets have unlocked the ability to flip the proverbial “switch” but it is only useable when they go down 3-1. This sudden fail-safe has allowed them to be the first team in NBA history to come back from 3-1 twice in a singular playoff run. Coming back from double-digit second-half deficits in each of the last three games shows how far they have come as playe

Eastern Conference Finals

Welcome to the Eastern Conference Finals, if you have followed me from the start of the playoffs you’ve realized that I’ve picked the winner of each series correctly. Well technically only half right because of the number of games I’ve been off on, but the result is the result. The Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat have proven to be the teams with more heart and well-coached. Boston is in a familiar place as they are in the East Finals for the third time in four years. This is Miami’s first time in the East Finals since the “Heatles” in 2014. Now What happens when these two teams clash for the right to be in the NBA Finals, lets discuss.  When I look at this series it is truly a tossup for me, both teams were impressive last round with their level of play. Let’s look at the playoff numbers for both teams since numbers don’t lie, well at least they shouldn’t. Offensively the Heat is 5 th  overall in the playoffs in points scored with 112 which is also good for 3 rd  in teams remaining

Western Conference Semi Finals

Image
As expected, the wild western conference did not disappoint in excitement and competition as we saw two out of the four first-round series go the full seven games. It’s never been a debate that the west has been the stronger conference over the years but it proved it once again with historic performances from the future stars of the NBA. Future stars such as Luka Doncic pushing the Clippers to six games with two and a half of those games being without costar Kristaps Porzingis. In his first NBA playoff appearance, he averaged 31 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 8.7 assists. It's only his second year in the league.   Then we had the intense seven-game battle between Jamal Murray and Donovan Mitchell who joined Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, and Allen Iverson as the only players with multiple 50-point games in a playoff run. Last but not least we saw the Thunder lose a wire to wire game 7 against the Houston Rockets who showed that they are not strictly about the offensive side of the ba

Eastern Conference Semi Finals

Going into the semi-finals of the playoffs, the east side of the bracket moved quickly as the Celtics, Raptors, and Heat took quick care of their respective matchups with clean sweeps across the board. The Milwaukee Bucks were not far behind in that department as they took care of their matchup as well in 5 games. Now we get to watch more competitive basketball from the eastern conference side as we have Celtics vs Raptors and Bucks vs Heat and its safe to say there will be no sweeps of any kind.  (3)Celtics vs (2)Raptors Boston won game one of this series handsomely, 112-94, as we saw a massive collective effort from the Celtics. Six out of 11 players that touched the floor for the Celtics scored double digits with bright spots being Tatum and Marcus Smart both scoring 21. With the Raptors playing their well documented 2-3 zone we saw the Celtics focus on making and taking three-pointers as they shot 39 threes making 43% of them in game one. A bright spot from that area of th

A Motivational Inspired By Kobe Bryant

Well let’s be clear 2020 has been memorable for all the wrong reasons To be completely honest   Just to list  things that happened, some of us lost jobs   Some of us lost family or friends b/c of corona   And some of us who are in school have lost the ability to go to class. Who would’ve thought we would miss that    And then there are those that fit all three    Before corona we lost popular figures such as Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant and young upcoming rapper out of Brooklyn Pop Smoke   These Deaths or current circumstances in your life has made you appreciate the little things.    Whether it’s just watching tv with family or being able to see friends comfortably in a safe space without that lingering thought in the back of your head   In essence we are living in some dark times. But I believe that dark times mold people.    It can mold people to be more educated, more experienced because now you know what it’s like to struggle or go through a certain situation    Struggle because now

Upset Tuesday, Day 2 of NBA playoffs

Image
Day 2 of the NBA playoffs was a perfect encore to Day 1. We saw both number one seeds get exposed by their conference’s 8 th seed. We saw the small ball Rockets shoot the Thunder out the gym without Westbrook as he nurses his quad injury; and we saw round one of the Jimmy Butler against TJ Warren series. So let’s talk   (1) Milwaukee Bucks vs (8) Orlando Magic                Going into this game and series I was looking to see if the Magic would make the Bucks work. No one is expecting them to beat the Bucks four times, but will they make things difficult for reigning MVP and this year’s MVP candidate, Giannis Antetokounmpo? On Tuesday things got shockingly difficult for Milwaukee as they found themselves in an uphill battle since early in the second quarter. Throughout the game I did not feel any dominance in Giannis’ play, yes, he had 31 points 17 rebounds and 7 assists, but I felt I was looking for him more than him coming off the screen. If you look deeper into his sta
